John Neale (bishop)

The Rt Rev  John Robert Geoffrey Neale  was the inaugural Bishop of Ramsbury from 1974 to 1988. Born on 21 September 1926 he was educated at Felsted School [1] and then served in the Royal Artillery during World War II. He completed his studies at King's College London and St Boniface, Warminster and began his ecclesiastical career with a curacy in St Helier. He was then successively Chaplain of Ardingly College, Secretary of the Advisory Council for Church Ministry, Canon Missioner  for the Diocese of Guildford [2] and Rector of St. Peter's, Hascombe before his elevation to the Episcopate. Since 1991 he has been an Assistant Bishop within the Diocese of Bristol.[3] His papers are housed at the National Church Institutions Database of Manuscripts and Archives.[4]
